The way you react about a particular situation says a lot about you. If you can keep your cool despite a stressful situation, then consider yourself lucky because you know how to handle yourself well. On the other hand, if you are easily affected at how others treat you or the way the act, then you are probably suffering from a mental health issue. Do not worry because there are tons of ways on how you can deal with it.
At this point, it is crucial to highlight the necessity for you to take good care of your mental health. The job of being an author is not easy to do. There will be several challenges and problems that will test your capacity to handle difficult situations. These struggles can even bring you down if you do not have the right mindset on how to fight the battle. You need to master some strategies to ensure that you will experience some improvements in your mental health. Here are some of the things that you have to consider:
Believe In Your Talent
Avoid comparing yourself to other authors because you have different circumstances. Cliché as it may sound; you have to trust the timing of your life. Just because you have not yet written a best-selling novel does not necessarily mean that It will never happen. What you have to do is to believe in your talent. Remind yourself every single day that you have what it takes to be considered as a skilled author. Take all the time you need to improve your skills until you eventually turn your ultimate dream into a reality. “When you challenge yourself to learn a new skill, you are building your intellectual health. People who pay attention to their intellectual wellness often find that they have better concentration, improved memory, and better critical thinking skills,” says Marjie L. Roddick, MA, NCC, LMHC
Be With The Best People
As much as possible, surround yourself with the persons who appreciate everything about you. Be with the people who never get tired of cheering you whenever you feel down. Conversely, never waste your precious time with those who only have a bad agenda in establishing a friendship or relationship with you. As such, it is vital on your part to be careful in choosing your friends. Avoid those who will only make you doubt about your talents.Remember, “We only have control of ourselves and our own desire for growth and change. Part of that growth and change is deciding the type of person we allow in our lives, and the positive impact they can have on us.” Nikki Martinez, Psy.D. LCPC notes in an article.
Take A Break
Most authors are not afraid to go on hiatus if it means regaining their confidence and focus back. If you believe that you are already exhausted from all the demands of your work, do not hesitate to take a break. You need to know and understand that there will be days when your commitment to writing a book will be gone. Do not fret because it is only temporary. This is the main reason why it is highly recommended for a writer like you to step away from your responsibilities, even for a day or two. If budget and time permit, go on an extended vacation and re-discover that you are so that you can start writing better pieces.
Take Care Of Yourself
Whenever you are feeling down, the best thing to do is to find a way to exercise. Spend at least one hour a day to complete all your physical activities. If you keep on doing it on a regular basis, there is a high chance that the happy hormones in your body will increase. As a result, you can get a guarantee that your mood will continuously improve. As you probably know by now, a good mood means a productive day for an author. As such, always make it a top priority to exercise and to care for your body. Because “Prioritizing daily self-care and making efforts to take action. Accepting that daily self-care is hard work and challenging.” says Edna M. Esnil, PsyD. But it should start there.
The goal is to work hard in improving your mental health so that you can do better in your chosen profession.
